The problem is that you are basically choosing the music that will eventually torture you to death through repetition. For me this has to be a virtuoso -- a master musician and transcendent figure, and frankly, this rules out most rock musicians for me. I'd probably choose someone like Miles, Trane, or John Lennon, though I'd take a look at Jeff Tweedy and even Robert Pollard.

Well, at any rate, another thread worth bookmarking, since it's full of musicians I've never heard of whom some people say they could listen to for the rest of their lives?!

Pollard is a little bit tongue in cheek, but I just love Guided By Voices and I know that I can listen to them for hours on end if necessary.

Well, in that case you could choose 1910 Fruitgum Co. or The New Vaudeville Band. Would that be torturous enough for you?

I agree, and will surely investigate those artists I am not familiar with.
